Fiat brings in Italian executive to head China JV
Fiat's Italian ex-ecutive Paulo Massi has been appointed the new chief execu- tive officer of Nanjing Fiat, Fiat's 50:50 joint venture with Nanjing Auto, the Fi-nancial Times reported. Mr Massi, who has been on the board of Nanjing Fiat for three years, is the first Fiat representative to head the China JV. This appointment is seen as Fiat's bid to exert more control over the venture, following Nanjing Auto's recent acquisition of MG Rover assets, an indication that the Chinese carmaker wants to sell its own cars independently. The report quoted Nanjing Fiat as saying that it was customary for the company to change its chief executive every two years and that Massi's appointment did not re.ect dissatisfaction on the part of the Italian partner.
