JOIN Weeks at Fudan

A good turnout at the second BI-Fudan MBA Alumni Forum More than 100 people attended the second BI-Fudan MBA Alumni Forum where Vice-President of the Chinese Olympic committee Mr. Tu Mingde was one of the guest speakers.

At the second BI-Fudan MBA Alumni Forum, the 11th of March, the speakers were Vice-President of the Chinese Olympic Committee Mr. Tu Mingde together with Professor Hermann Kopp from BI Norwegian School of Management. After Professor Lu Xiongwen, Dean of School of Management at Fudan University, had held his opening speech "Innovation and the Olympics" which the audience seemed to appreciate, Mr. Tu Mingde gave the listeners insight in the amount of planning and work that goes into hosting the Olympics. The changes the 2008 Olympic Games has had on the urban planning and developments in Beijing are tremendous but very exciting and Mr. Tu Mingde himself has been very much involved in China's two Olympic bids. He was initially involved for the 2000 Olympics and later for the 2008 Olympics, he showed great excitement and looks forward to show the world spectacular new arenas, new subways and the best of what Chinese culture has to offer.

Professor Hermann Kopp gave a brief introduction on how the Olympic Games have evolved since the reinvention in the late 1800s. He discussed the role of the entrepreneur and the entrepreneurship and also talked about how sports and huge sports events are driving forces for economic developments and developments in tourism.

The audience included guests from the various BI-Fudan MBA and CMP classes along with representatives from the Swedish Chamber, and students on a three-month study trip in Fudan from the Norwegian School of Entrepreneurship.

Prudential contributes $5m to Rutgers Business School

Prudential Chairman Arthur Ryan announced that Prudential has made a $5 million contribution to help establish a new home for Rutgers Business School, including an endowed chair and a center dedicated to business ethics and leadership in the business, non-profit and philanthropic arenas.

"In supporting our new business school campaign, Prudential has made a powerful statement about the importance of Rutgers Business School. Art Ryan exemplifies the best of what leadership can accomplish in both the corporate and civic world, so it is especially gratifying to us that a portion of Prudential's gift will support a program of leadership development, ethics and entrepreneurship."

IBHS Charity Golf Tournament 2008

The IBHS (International Branded Hotels of Shanghai) will once again host the 5th annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Shanghai West Course on Friday, May 30.The IBHS is an organisation that unites Shanghai's best four- and five-star international hotels with a membership of 60 hotels and over 26,000 guest rooms in the city. The IBHS is a division of the Shanghai Hotel Industry Association and has been meeting on a regular basis since it began back in 1993 with just nine member hotels.

This is the fifth year that the organisation will hold the annual IBHS Charity Golf Tournament at Shanghai West golf course. In previous years the organisation has raised funds for many of Shanghai's local charities, including the Shanghai Charity Foundation.

On March 18, the IBHS donated a cheque for RMB225,000 to the Shanghai Charity Foundation at a presentation ceremony held at the Fudan University Children's Hospital. Details of which can be found on the IBHS website, www.cometoshanghai.com.

This year's charity golf tournament will give Shanghai's corporate companies the opportunity to showcase their products and services and at the same time mix with some of the best hoteliers in Shanghai. Each tee hole will be themed by the different member hotels who will also be serving refreshments. The afternoon is relaxed and informal but of course with a competitive spirit and finishes with a BBQ supper when the winners will be presented with their trophies.

Chairman of the IBHS Mr William Hall, general manager of the Hotel Equatorial Shanghai, commented "This is our main charity event for the year and it gives us an opportunity as a group to give something back to the local Shanghai community in which our hotels operate."
